Hi guys! Doug Barra coming to you from Charlotte North Carolina at the BNI National Convention.

I wanted to take a moment this morning and reach out to you. First off I apologize, normally I do these updates on Wednesday, but Wednesday I was traveling. So, today is the first day of the conference, and what I want to talk to you about is life-long learning. Because life-long learning is one of the most important things, I feel, for keeping yourself up to date, ahead of the curve, making sure that you get the opportunity to do the things that you want to do. To learn what it is that you need to know, so that you can be on the top of your game.

I am a big proponent of learning constantly, going to conferences, going to training programs, whatever it is that I can do to stay ahead. Now, of course, that is part of my business. But I want you to really consider that that’s part of your business too!

When you are in business, if you were not on top of things, if you don’t know what’s happening, if you don’t know where the trends are going, where the market is going, what new things are coming out, what new innovations are happening or what new kinds of disruptive things are happening in your industry, then you could be in trouble. And, I want you to understand that this is important, that you know what’s going on in your industry and are staying ahead of it.

Now, why the BNI conference? I’m an ActionCOACH, why wouldn’t I be at an ActionCOACH conference?

Well, first of all, there isn’t an ActionCOACH conference right now! But, BNI is an organization that helps me to find people that are interested in what I’m looking to help them with. Business Networks International. If you haven’t heard about it look it up bni.com.

BNI is an opportunity to get related to a group of people who… they’re getting together on a weekly basis, to pass referrals, to create a referral group. And referrals are, as I hope you already know, the best way to get new clients. Whenever you have someone that is interested in what you’re offering because someone else said this is the person that you want to talk to, that’s when you have the best opportunity to make a difference with them, make a sale with them. So, if you don’t know about it, go look it up.

But remember, staying on top of your industry, on top of what’s happening, especially innovations and disruptions, this is a world of disruptions nowadays, guys! Ao you want to be on top of the disruptions.
