In this video, we’ll explore three ways a business can be sustainable – in terms of its longevity, profitability, and environmental impact. We’ll also look at some essential strategies for building a sustainable business. Stay tuned!

Hi, I’m Doug Barra, and I’m a business coach. I’ve had the honor and privilege to work with the owners of all shapes and sizes of businesses to grow and thrive, and sustainability is always at the heart of my advice.

I will share some essential strategies for building a sustainable business in this video. Sustainability isn’t just about being eco-friendly – although that’s important too! Instead, sustainability is about ensuring that your business can continue to grow and prosper in the long term.

There are three key ways in which a business can be sustainable:

1) Longevity – A sustainable business will still be around in years to come. It has a solid foundation, a clear vision, and strong leadership.

2) Profitability – A sustainable business is profitable and generates enough revenue to support its growth.

3) Environmental Impact – A sustainable business positively impacts the environment, both in terms of its own operations and the products or services it provides.

So those are the three key ways a business can be sustainable. Now let’s look at some essential strategies for building a sustainable business.

1) Have a clear vision and purpose – Your business needs to have a clear vision and purpose that goes beyond just making money. What is your company’s mission? What are you trying to achieve? Why does your business exist? Answering these questions will help you to define your company’s goals and ensure that sustainability is at the heart of everything you do.

2) Build a strong foundation – A sustainable business has a strong foundation, including a well-defined business model, sound financial planning, and robust systems and processes. Make sure you have all of these in place before you start growing your business.

3) Focus on long-term growth – Sustainable businesses don’t just focus on short-term gains. Instead, they invest in long-term growth, such as developing new products and services, expanding into new markets, and building a loyal customer base.

4) Be adaptable – The world is constantly changing, and your business needs to be able to change with it. So be prepared to pivot your business model if necessary and embrace new technologies and trends.

5) Innovate – Sustainable businesses continually look for ways to innovate and improve. They’re not afraid to experiment and take risks. This means they’re always ahead of the curve and can capitalize on new opportunities.

6) Manage your resources wisely – sustainability is all about using resources efficiently and minimizing waste. Make sure you understand your business’s resource needs well and put systems in place to manage them effectively.

7) Educate your team – Your team needs to be on board with your sustainability goals. Provide them with training and development opportunities so that they can understand what sustainability means for your business and how they can contribute to it.

8) Communicate your sustainability message – It’s not enough to just talk about sustainability. You need to communicate it too. Make sure your sustainability message is clear and consistent and share it across all channels, from your website and social media to your marketing materials and customer communications.

9) Measure and monitor your progress – You can’t manage what you don’t measure. So keep track of your sustainability performance using key metrics and indicators. This will help you to identify areas where you’re doing well and areas where you need to improve.

10) Continuously improve – Sustainability is an ongoing journey, not a destination. As your business grows and changes, so too will your sustainability goals. Keep reviewing your progress and making improvements so that you can continue to build a sustainable business for the long term.

Follow these essential strategies, and you’ll be well on your way to building a sustainable business that will thrive for years to come.
