As a business owner, your goal is not to sell your product or service. What? Yes! You heard me right! Your goal is not to sell your product or service. Your goal is to buy customers and keep them for as long as you can. Huh? Yes! I said, buy customers!

Hi, I’m Doug Barra. In this video blog, we will talk about how business owners can buy new customers and keep them for as long as possible. Why do I say that is the goal of all business owners, not selling your product or service? Because business success is a function of your business providing the resources for you to live the life you want.

How does your business do that? By providing cash flow and time. Cash flow is a function of your sales. And your customers drive your sales. Your business has to provide something that benefits your customers more than the money they spend on that product or service.

In other words, it must create value for them to get them in the door and make them want to come back again. Once you have a customer in the door, those people have all kinds of needs, selection, price, availability. But one thing business owners tend to forget is that each customer also wants support. The goal of business success is not to sell products and services at any cost, then move on to the next transaction as quickly as possible.

It’s about buying customers for as little money as possible, so we can keep those customers for a longer period of time and get the greatest return on our investment. To do this, we have to really understand our customer’s needs and desires, not just the business’s need we’re trying to fulfill with our product or service. The better we understand what our customers need and desire, the more business we will do with those people.

That’s business success! The bottom line: business owners can buy customers and keep them for as long as possible by understanding what their customers need and want, not just what the business needs to fulfill, by providing support to help your customers achieve a result that is better than they could get on their own. And by building a relationship so strong between you and your customer, that they go out of their way to help you succeed.

It isn’t about spending our time making sales or advertising. It’s about spending our time helping our customers reach their goals faster. Communicating the value of what benefits your customer is Marketing 101! But, many business owners get sidetracked by marketing campaigns instead of getting to know their customers better.

So focus on your customers and how to best serve them, and you will undoubtedly attract more customers, and your business will grow.
