THE IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING ADVICE ICE

February 09, 20152 min read

Have you ever heard the old adage “No man is an island”? That saying originated in a poem written by John Donne back in 1624. Despite it being almost 400 years since Donne committed that phrase to paper, the sentiment remains the same. No human being can do everything. No human can be everything.

Seeking advice is important. In fact, it is one of the most important business growth strategies your business can adopt.

Why is seeking advice so important?

  • An expert can get the job done faster and better than you can. Unless you are a legal expert, you do not have the experience or expertise to do your company’s legal work. Your lawyer can do the work in a fraction of the time it would take you to even get started.

  • Experts can access data that the average business owner cannot. For example, a real estate agent has up to date information on recent property purchases. This information is critical for pricing a bid, negotiating the final sales price, and knowing whether a property is overpriced or a real bargain.

  • An impartial opinion can prevent you from making a big mistake. You have dreams of expanding your business overseas. You have decided to make your products available in Europe. An overseas business expert can tell you if your plans are workable or not. You may find that your dream needs more work or not feasible in current conditions.

  • A mentor can help you make your dreams come true. Advice comes in many forms. A mentor gets to know what you are thinking for your business and advise you on the best ways to make it happen. He or she may have key contacts that can make your dream a reality faster than you ever thought possible. The advice you get from a mentor can be just what you need to move forward.

  • Experts can help your company stay on track and moving forward. Your accountant can help you keep your financial records up to date and keep the IRS happy. Your attorney can advise you on contracts and other legal matters. The employment agency can help you find the right talent to grow your business. Your business coach can tell you if your business growth strategies are on target.

Seek advice when you need it. It will pay off with long-term success.
